Day One: Fame M-22 Journey

We began our trip Thursday afternoon and headed North to our first stop of Frankfort. Our 3 hour drive from Grand Rapids to Frankfort was very peaceful and filled with giggles and smiles as our excitement for a weekend in our van had our minds racing of the possibilities and adventures ahead. It was 5:00 when we made it into Frankfort and began our trip walking the beach and making our way to the lighthouse. This is one of the coolest Michigan cities that I never hear talked about as a destination, and can't understand why. This small town is one hell of a ‘best-kept secret’ and a necessary stop on your next Michigan road trip. Not only did we make Frankfort a destination on the way up, we made sure to pass through it again on our way home. The beach here is breathtaking with high dunes surrounding it, a daring downtown area, and a peaceful white lighthouse with a pier to walk along. It is the perfect little vacation spot. Also in this quaint little town, we found a new Belgian style brewery that we quickly fell in love with. It’s called Stormcloud and it is located right on the main drag of Main Street. The beer is phenomenal and the location and bar is absolutely perfect. The night we went there was a killer string girl group of 3 playing their hearts out on the patio, called the Accidentals. With the string sounds, saison beer in my hand, and partner in crime by my side; this went down as a perfect evening.

After dinner we continued our voyage North to find a place to park our van and rest for the night. Unfortunately, this became an issue due to the holiday and all the camp grounds were filled for the weekend. After about an hour driving around and being turned down by many camp groups, we found an abandoned DNR rustic camp site between Glen Arbor and Empire, this is where we stayed the night.
