Weekend Warriors

Ever feel like you need a weekend to recover after your crazy/busy weekend? Ken and I work hard, but play even harder. We take our weekends very serious, spending every moment chasing the sun, trying to see and do it all.

This weekend was spent along the coast of Lake Michigan soaking up the perfect fall weather, last of the brilliant fall colors and freedom of the open road. We chose Leelanau as our destination this weekend since the surf was supposed to up in the Glen Arbor area Sunday morning.

We took our time driving up, stoping for snacks, beverages and all other temptations that catch your eye when you take the back roads. On our way up we stopped to explore Ludington since I had never seen it before. The beaches of are absolutely beautiful and run on for miles. Gorgeous in that area - wish it was warm enough for a swim.

Here are some shots from our journey north:

These Boots are Stella

Outfit Details:

A good chambray shirt is a staple for both men and women. This surprisingly versatile clothing item has turned into a neutral piece that you can wear with anything from colored jeans, leggings, joggers, skirts, a basic trouser and so much more. I found this perfect shirt from Gap that fits great and feels great on.

But let's work our way down to the real statement piece of this outfit - those boots! The mix of black and brown leather opens the flood gates on possibilities of styling.  These have become my 'Go-To' boot for work and play. Dress it up, dress it down, dress it however you please. These boots will not go unnoticed however you choose to style them.

Detroit Street Style

 Outfit Details:
While in Detroit for the marathon, we took our time visiting our favorite spots of this magical city and found this beautiful graffiti wall. Detroit is a true work of art and I am so proud to have my roots in Metro-Detroit.

The Detroit Marathon

Well, we did it! Ken and I successfully completed our first half marathon this morning at the Detroit Free Press International Half Marathon. My brother joined us all the way from Miami to complete his third full marathon through this magical city.

It was a cold, but absolutely beautiful day for a race through Detroit and Windsor. At 6:58 this morning, when the first gun shot went off the temperate was a brisk 36 degrees, but that didn't stop this family from loving the race! The courses are so well mapped out through the cities, taking runners along the Detroit River showing off both city skylines throughout. Within a mile and a half from the starting point, we ran over the Ambassador Bridge watching the sunrise over Windsor. The bright red sun illuminated Autumn's colored trees that lined the river. It was stunning!

We had a blast running along side of 27,000 other enthusiastic runners and cheering fans that filled the streets. Ken and I are now hooked on the running lifestyle and will be seeking our next challenge in the near future.

See below for more images of our race day!

A short photo post of Michigan's Northern Woods at it's finest and a van that
symbolizes freedom and adventure.

Autumn Foliage, Day Two

It was stunning waking up in Sleep Bear Dunes National Park to the crisp morning air that accompanies fall. Our campsite was right on Lake Michigan, so we enjoyed our morning walking the beach, letting Peugeot run and swim the shoreline like a fool.

After we cleaned the pup and packed the van we continued our journey through the dunes and up through Northern Michigan making stops in Leelanau, Sutton's Bay and Traverse City. We spent time walking downtown Traverse City and wrapped up our van trip stopping at a few local wineries.

It was the most perfect weekend with our little family. That van is the best purchase we have ever made and I hope to one day have the freedom to spend months in there traveling our beautiful country. Until next time...

Autumn Foliage, Day One

We chose the best weekend to visit Northern Michigan and experience the peak of the autumn foliage. Early Saturday morning we packed up the van and drove north for another van adventure with nothing but the open road and beauty that fills our state. We explored Pure Michigan the way it ought to be done with no set plans and the freedom to do it all in our van.

The first stop of our adventure was Crystal Mountain where we could enjoy a chairlift ride to the top of the hill to overlook Thompsonville and all the surrounding colors. Unfortunately, by time we arrived, the chairlifts had been shutdown for a private wedding, so we had to do the next best thing, we climbed it. The hike to the top was well worth with, for the gorgeous panoramic views we earned when we got there! The colors of the leaves were absolutely brilliant, we could see the incredible views for miles.

Following this adventure we jumped in the van and may our way to Frankfort where we spent time exporting the downtown area, beach and lighthouse. Then back to the van to explore Glen Arbor, where we squeezed in every moment of daylight before calling Sleeping Bear Dunes home for the night.
