Peugeot Turns SIX!

Happy 6th Birthday to our sweet little pup! Peugeot turned six today and to celebrate I went into our photo vault and pulled photos of Peugeot the day we picked him up and his first month with Ken and I as his new parents.

He is the happiest, most loving and most precious dog in the world and I am so happy that he is ours!

Enjoy these adorable little puppy pictures! And Happy Birthday P!

Beaver Island, A Pure Michigan Gem

Michigan still has the ability to surprise me. It is a state filled with so much beauty and many hidden gems. If you live in the Midwest and our looking for a new adventure and place to explore, we HIGHLY recommend Beaver Island.

Beaver Island Lighthouses

The two lighthouses on the island were just beautiful and unique in their own way. I can’t help myself but to do a photo post on images of these historic landmarks of Beaver Island.

Bike the Beav

Happy Summer Solstice! Summer is officially here. Ken and I welcomed the beginning of the new season the best way we know how… a Pure Michigan van adventure. It was a weekend of firsts for us as we loaded up the van and made our way over to Beaver Island for the first time. Prior to meeting our dear friends Marc and Marcie, I had never heard of Beaver Island, so when they invited us to join them on a Beaver Island Bike Tour, how could we say no? So, where is Beaver Island exactly? It’s right here (see map below), just 32 miles northwest of Charlevoix. We took a short 2 hour boat ride so we packed our van with our bikes and gear and took the van on the boat with us.
I didn’t know what to expect of Beaver Island before arriving on shore but when we landed it had a very familiar feeling. The island reminded me a lot of towns in Alaska we had visited in the past. There's dense forestry, a small downtown that is remote yet quaint and rich in history. The 40 mile bike tour blew us away with all the beauty this island has to offer. There are 8 gorgeous island lakes, 2 lighthouses, 2 airports and so much to see and do on this 13 mile long island.

I wish I had more photos, but the bikers took this ride serious so I had to keep up. See below for images from the ride.

Taste the Caribbean

The Painkiller, BVI Style

The Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke Island may have created the Painkiller, but you can create it where ever you are. It is the perfect summer drink; a lovely mix of orange, pineapple and coconut that will quickly relax you. Try making this little island beverage yourself and taste what we love about the British Virgin Islands!

In a mixer, combine the following ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Dark Rum
  • 4 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • 1 oz. Orange Juice
  • 1 oz. Cream of Coconut

Pour over ice then sprinkle nutmeg powder on top. Get fancy by adding a maraschino cherry or chunk of pineapple to your drink for perfection. Cheers!

Caribbean Island Hoppers

With Ken and I being the adventurous, busy body travelers that we are, we wanted to find a way to get out and explore all the surrounding islands in the British Virgin Islands. So, we found a little island excursion that took us from island to island to snorkel and sun bathe on the pristine white beaches that bordered the islands. This was a highlight for both of us and turned out to be a booze cruise, which was a lovely surprise.
On this all day Caribbean cruise we anchored along many islands to take in the beauty and the unique characteristics that make each island what they are today. On one of our stops we docked our boat to an original pirate ship that has since been turned into a bar / restaurant for passing boats and can quickly turn into a party spot with boats tied up to one another and people jumping off the top of the pirate ship. We had so much fun on the pirate ship and a fabulous fresh caught fish lunch. It was amazing!

From the Pirate Ship we sailed on to more drinking and partying adventures. When we arrived at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke Island where we had to jump off the boat and swim quite a distance to the island. Hence the name Soggy Dollar Bar. By time you swim up to the bar your cash is soaking wet and the bar hangs your money by clothes line to dry. This crazy little bar nested along the ocean front is the creator of the delicious rum drink, the Painkiller than Ken and I fell in love with and drank our fair share the entire time at sea.
All islands, beaches, coral reefs in the clear blue sea were beyond beautiful and so picturesque. It was a truly spectacular cruise and tour of the British Virgin Islands.

TortO-la-la

When Ken surprised me with our latest vacation to Tortola, I remember saying, “Oh, that sounds fancy! Where’s Tortola?” At that time I had no idea that Ken was taking me to paradise in the British Virgin Islands. Two flights and a boat ride to Scrub Island is where we found our escape from reality. With the most brilliant blues of the Caribbean Sea and clear skies all week, it was just the getaway we both needed.

We spent our vacation like honeymooners, spending every moment together. From long drawn out dinners, at sea adventures, and lounging on the beach hand-in-hand; it was the most perfect vacation together.
While in the Caribbean we stayed on Scrub Island, a private island and beautiful resort. The resort was filled with young couples, all looking to spend quality time with their loved one. It was a quiet, laid back atmosphere that encouraged relaxation and bliss.
Stand up paddle-boards, kayaks, water slides, swim up bars and more were available at our convenience, making it a great place to stay and play. From sunup to sundown, we were in the ocean taking advantage of what we can't experience often enough.
This place was paradise and our time together was incredible. If you are looking for an escape and a new / different place to vacation and enjoy the Caribbean, someplace away from highly touristed areas and loud crowds, I highly recommend a getaway to Scrub Island and the British Virgin Islands.
